Young Professionals of LAGCOE to facilitate energy industry networking in 2017

Jan 16, 2017

2016 was a great year for Young Professionals of LAGCOE (YPL), an energy industry young professionals’ organization looking to connect and grow the next generation of energy industry leaders, despite the downturn of the oil and gas industry.

Events focused on networking and career development assisted industry professionals throughout 2016. More than 60 young professionals, including 3 executive pairings, connected with seasoned industry professionals through the YPL Mentor Program. YPL hosted two events featuring keynote speakers focusing on mentorship as a function of career development.

During the LAGCOE Education & Innovation Summit, LAGCOE hosted a DRILLS event focusing on leadership, legacy and succession, facilitating the types of conversations that need to happen between the generations.

LAGCOE awarded scholarships to two 4-year students and one 2-year student. The scholarships are funded by the LAGCOE Education Fund which is supported by YPL fundraising efforts.

YPL rounded out 2016 by assisting LAGCOE with the Light & Learn with LAGCOE activity center during the historic Oil Center's 23rd annual Festival of Lights. Members volunteered to assist with the educational activities designed to introduce the next generation to the energy industry.

“Networking, career development, and education for all ages are always important components to long-term industry sustainability. With the industry making moves towards cautious optimism, LAGCOE events and programs will create opportunities for business growth,” stated Angela Cring, LAGCOE Executive Director.

With focused LAGCOE efforts on long-term workforce development and education, 2017 promises to be an even more beneficial year for YPL members with many great events already planned, beginning with a kick-off event on Wednesday, February 8 at Corner Bar of Lafayette featuring a panel of area young professionals. The panel will discuss the importance of civic citizenship and the impact it has on the energy industry and how it plays a role in professional development as showcased by our panel and their early success. Panel participants include: Keith Seilhan, Tom Hebert, Kelsey Corrigan, Susan Frizzell and Luke Sonnier.

The annual LAGCOE Sporting Clays Shoot is returning on Saturday, February 25. The shoot will feature two flights and a European Style Rotation. Profits from the 4th annual LAGCOE Sporting Clays Shoot will be donated to the LAGCOE Education Fund, a fund at Community Foundation of Acadiana. Registration information can be found at LAGCOE.com/events/lagcoe-sporting-clays.

Continuing the tradition of industry networking, the Young Professionals of LAGCOE Invitational Golf Tournament will be held April 6-7. More details will be announced on LAGCOE.com in the upcoming weeks.

The Future Energy Professionals program will begin accepting applications in Spring 2017 for the highly anticipated guided tours of LAGCOE 2017 for high school juniors and seniors.

The industry networking and career development opportunities continue in early Summer 2017 with a LAGCOE DRILLS event. Later in the summer, YPL will invite members and their families to a family-friendly event. In August 2017, there will be a “Coffee with” event featuring a special guest who will be announced closer to LAGCOE 2017 open exclusively to members.

YPL members will gain exclusive access to events and programs at LAGCOE 2017, October 24-26. YPL will also host the official wrap-up event for the YPL Mentor Program during LAGCOE 2017.

Young professionals with ties to the energy industry are invited to join YPL for $50 per year to take full advantage of special pricing for many of these great events as well as access to industry networking, service and career development functions. The membership application can be found at LAGCOE.com/youngprofessionals.
