Unlock Your Future: Apply for the Future Energy Professionals Scholarship Today!

Nov 25, 2024 /

I don't know about you, but when I was in college, any extra help was welcomed. I recall applying for every single scholarship I qualified for—$1,000, $500—everything counted. The Future Energy Professionals (FEP) Scholarship is one of those opportunities that could make a significant difference in your academic journey. With an easy-to-complete application and a clear path to eligibility, it’s a must-try for Louisiana high school juniors and seniors planning to pursue STEM degrees.

The process is simple: participate in a Manufacturing Week Tour hosted by LEDA, 1Acadiana, or Lagcoe at approved energy companies, and you’re ready to apply. It doesn’t get more straightforward than that! There are two more tours this year, so juniors and seniors have a chance to qualify and then submit their applications.

What’s the FEP Scholarship All About?

The FEP Scholarship supports goal-oriented students who are passionate about pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM). Over the years, recipients have gone on to pursue degrees in fields like chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, and oil and gas production. Past winners have attended Louisiana State University, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Baton Rouge Community College, and more.

The scholarship is awarded every other year and provides vital financial assistance to students aiming to study STEM at Louisiana colleges or universities.

Application Details

Here’s what you need to apply:

  1. Eligibility:

    • Participation in the Manufacturing Week Tours at energy companies approved by Lagcoe.
    • Be a junior or senior in a Louisiana high school.
    • Plan to pursue a STEM degree at a Louisiana college or university.
  2. Required Documents:

    • Two letters of recommendation from teachers or STEM professionals.
    • A handwritten essay or personal statement (avoid using Chat GPT. If you must, use it to correct your grammar.)
    • A certified and sealed copy of your most recent high school transcript.

Paper applications are not accepted. Eligible students will receive an email with the link and password to apply. The deadline for the 2024 FEP Scholarship is January 2024, so don’t wait!

The Impact of the FEP Scholarship

The FEP Scholarship isn’t just about financial support—it’s about opening doors. Drake Bergeron, a 2016 recipient, shared:“My FEP Scholarship made my college journey possible. All I had to do was write an essay expressing my interests and motivation in advancing my career as a young professional interested in STEM.” Drake went on to earn a degree in Chemical Engineering from UL Lafayette and now works as an Assistant Chemical Engineer at Burn & McDonnell. He’s just one example of how this scholarship can set you on the path to success.

A Legacy of Excellence

Here’s a glimpse of our incredible past recipients:

  • 2014: Emily Duplechain Barber (LSU, now at Shell) and David LaCour (UL Lafayette, now at Marathon Petroleum Corporation).
