“TRANSFORM LAGCOE” Will Build on LAGCOE’s Rich History in Louisiana

LAFAYETTE, LA (March 5, 2020) – On Monday, January 27, 2020, the LAGCOE Board of Directors conducted a strategic offsite meeting to initiate an endeavor called “Transform LAGCOE.” The board has authorized a strategically selected taskforce to establish a clear direction for future LAGCOE events by summer of this year.

Since its founding in Lafayette more than 64 years ago, the LAGCOE organization’s signature biennial event has brought together the best and brightest oil and gas professionals, businesses, and industry leaders to share and showcase new technologies and advancements in the energy sector. In 2019, the Board of Directors made the historic decision to move the event to New Orleans, LA. The LAGCOE Board based this decision on the need to balance access to Energy Operators, Service Companies, and Regulatory Agencies in Louisiana. Moving to New Orleans signified the Board’s desire to respond to the changing landscape of the energy industry in the Gulf Coast.

Gary Landry, LAGCOE’s Chairman-Elect of the Board, said of the decision, “LAGCOE’s goal has always been to serve our ever-evolving industry to the best of our ability. Trends in both the oil and gas sector as well as the tradeshow industry demonstrate that the approach we’ve taken historically to our events and programs isn’t keeping up with the needs of our state’s energy professionals. We feel confident that Transforming our approach will allow LAGCOE to continue its legacy of supporting Louisiana’s energy industry in the best possible way.”

At the February 11 Board of Directors meeting, the strategic taskforce outlined several potential avenues for future LAGCOE events, but ensured that LAGCOE, the organization, will endure in honor of the preceding men and women that worked so hard to create and nurture LAGCOE’s reputation. The strategic task force outlined the next steps in Transform LAGCOE which include selecting experts to identify best practices in connecting people and presenting a set of options to the Board for pursuit. Focus areas include utilizing digital technology, optimally sized and topic-based conferences, partnerships with prominent organizations, and education.

Corinne Sprague, LAGCOE’s Interim Executive Director, shared her excitement about the organization’s opportunity to become a stronger, more innovative version of its former self. “The landscape of the oil and gas industry in our state doesn’t look the same as it did when LAGCOE was first established 64 years ago. I am thrilled to be assisting the Board in developing a plan to push LAGCOE ahead of tradeshow industry trends and better execute our mission to make a positive impact on Louisiana’s energy sector.”
