Little Energizers Brings Hands-On STEM Learning to Vermilion Parish

Thanks to the generous support of the Community Foundation of Acadiana's Vermilion Affiliate Foundation, Professionals of Lagcoe recently expanded its Little Energizers Program into Vermilion Parish, bringing hands-on STEM and energy education to students at the Boys & Girls Club of Acadiana – Vermilion Unit.

Funded through a $5,000 grant awarded in 2025, the program reached students from communities throughout Vermilion Parish with an engaging day of learning focused on science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and the energy industry.

During the program, each student built a solar-powered STEM cart, explored renewable energy concepts through interactive activities, received other three STEM activities, and two books to continue learning at home. One of the books introduced STEM careers and another focused on energy education.

Students also had the opportunity to hear directly from two engineers from Pelican Engineering, who shared their career journeys and offered insight into the many opportunities available in Louisiana's energy industry. Their participation gave students a real-world connection to STEM while encouraging them to imagine themselves in future engineering and energy careers.

"This is exactly what the Little Energizers Program is designed to do, to spark curiosity, introduce students to STEM in a fun and engaging way, and show them the incredible career opportunities available right here in our region," said Fumy Rita, Executive Director of Lagcoe.

Professionals of Lagcoe extends its sincere appreciation to the Community Foundation of Acadiana and the Vermilion Affiliate Foundation for making this expansion possible, as well as to Pelican Engineering for investing their time and expertise in the next generation.

Through partnerships like these, Little Energizers continues to inspire young learners while strengthening the future workforce of Louisiana's energy industry.
