Lafayette, LA. [January 28, 2025] The Lagcoe Endowed Scholarship, housed at South Louisiana Community College (SoLAcc), is proud to announce the selection of two outstanding students for the Spring 2025 semester. The recipients, Seth Martin and Christian Wagnon, were chosen for their dedication and resilience as they pursue careers in welding at the Ville Platte Campus.

The first recipient is Seth Martin, a Welding student from Opelousas, Louisiana, attending the Ville Platte Campus. Seth shared his aspirations, saying, "My goal is to earn a welding degree to gain the skills needed for a successful career. Coming from a family with limited opportunities and little support, I'm determined to take this chance to better myself. Despite challenges like lack of transportation, I'm committed to learning and maximizing my potential to create a brighter future."

The second recipient is Christian Wagnon, a Welding student from Washington, Louisiana, attending the Ville Platte Campus. Christian expressed his commitment to his studies, saying, "I plan to earn a welding degree to build a career that supports my two-year-old son and makes my family proud. As a single dad and the first in my family to attend college, I'm committed to attending class, studying, and practicing to achieve my goals."

The Lagcoe Endowed Scholarship is made possible through the generosity of Lagcoe, which made an irrevocable gift of $60,000 to the South Louisiana Community College Foundation in 2015. This donation was matched by the Louisiana Board of Regents Support Fund, adding $40,000 to the fund. In 2016, Lagcoe further supported the scholarship with an additional irrevocable gift of $15,000, which was also matched by the Louisiana Board of Regents, contributing $15,000 more. This partnership has allowed for the scholarship to be awarded every year since 2018, providing critical financial assistance to deserving students. Additionally, every three years, a professor receives an endowed professorship to enhance lab materials, conduct camps, and facilitate research.
