LAGCOE Unveils Little Energizers Program

Jun 04, 2020

LAGCOE’s newest program, LAGCOE Little Energizers , aims to spark an early interest in STEM among Acadiana’s youth with the goal of paving the way for the next generation of engineers, scientists, and innovators whose ideas will keep the energy industry growing, changing, and improving our world. The Little Energizers Program furthers LAGCOE’s mission to Foster Education through its weekly virtual learning opportunities featured on the Little Energizers web page and on the official LAGCOE social media platforms.

As virtual learning becomes more and more necessary while the Acadiana community navigates the COVID-19 pandemic, LAGCOE hopes to ease the disruption that comes with unexpectedly working from home while seeking to provide new and exciting distance learning opportunities for children who are suddenly also learning from home.

Corinne Sprague, LAGCOE Executive Director, said, “Our community is rightfully being very careful when it comes to gathering in groups and interacting in public spaces, and likely will remain cautious in the weeks and months to come. With summer break now in full swing, our team agreed that now is the time to roll out the Little Energizers program as a gesture of support for the Acadiana community and its children as we work together to adapt to this new normal,” said Corinne Sprague, LAGCOE Executive Director.

LAGCOE has created a virtual classroom that parents can access via LAGCOE.com/Little-Energizers. The page consists of a database of STEM-centric activities that can all be completed from the safety the home. While many of the at-home activities promote an understanding of Louisiana’s energy industry and its importance to the Acadiana community, the virtual classroom is being continuously updated each week with new projects, experiments, and activities that span across several areas of STEM.

As the Little Energizers program develops, the LAGCOE organization hopes to continue to Foster Education by exciting Acadiana's children about the thriving energy industry right in their own backyard. The LAGCOE organization will eventually, when safe, expand the program from being exclusively virtual to include in-person, hands-on experiences that serve to introduce children in the Acadiana community to the wonders and excitement behind careers in science, technology, engineering, and math.
